THE Question.

WHY?????????????

  1. Ok, so here's why. Because you have to give America a chance. If you don't go, you could just stay on a wrong first (more like second or third actually, but a bigger amount of time is needed to get it really right) impression. But if you go, who knows what might happen? If you're confirmed in what you thought, then that's it, you're done with the place. But if you're proved wrong... Wouldn't that be great? What if you fall in love with the place? What if, in May 2012, you just bless the chain of events that led you to go west?
Also, remember what the alternative is. You COULD just try and pass that exam this year, but the odds will be better next year. And you'll get to meet new people again in two years' time. A brand new adventure. Something else than the boredom of writing a dissertation. Even if that something is bleak or hard, I guess it's still easier to be proud of that than of just staying home all day alternating between dissertation, glee, japanese, guitar, doctor who, dissertation again and glee again and so on. Meet people. See places. You'll have time to settle down. As for getting a dog, the plan is postponed for a few more years, but really, there are more important things to do. And try to fix your writing. Also, America might hurt at first, but it must feel good once you know you've survived. A bit like the feeling you have in your legs after five hours of hiking and one hour of lasertag (go, Barney!). Or perhaps more like the way you feel remembering a two-days trek in the jungle. So, come on, let's go and do it. Life's boring when you don't try uncomfortable things.
